Beginning
I knew something was wrong as soon as we were out on the lake. I was sitting in a small rowboat with a girl named Alice and we were talking, she said something about chasing rabbits when I got my first real clue that something wasn't right--everything flashed in a bright white light and I thought I saw some wires in the place of her hand. No, something was wrong. Alice seemed to notice it too and I heard her voice change, suddenly it was mechanical rather than that of a little girl. "Hm. You weren't supposed to see that." She mused to herself seeming mildly irritated. Suddenly everything flashed again and I got a glimpse of my real surroundings.

I wasn't in a boat on a lake with a girl named Alice, I was in a machine of some sort, in a program not of my own design. I was sitting back on the boat suddenly and Alice was now a mess of wires with code flickering where skin once was. I yelled at her, demanded to know what was going on. The half of her face that wasn't a mess of code smiled at me darkly. "I can see that I'll have to deal with you while I fix this mess."

Suddenly everything was black. I had the sensation of falling and no idea how long it was going to last. Suddenly, it felt as if I collided with something and I saw code flickering around me. I was somewhere deep in the program and saw the room beginning to form. I seemed to be in some sort of abandoned hotel lobby. The building was coming into existence around me and yet it still seemed ancient and neglected with small holes in the walls coated in chipped paint. I had to try to go somewhere.
